Indrajit vs Hanuman; Indrajit’s Nikumbhila rite
ततःप्रेक्ष्यहनूमन्तंव्रजन्तंयत्रराघवः ।।।।स होतुकामोदुष्टात्मागतश्चैत्यंनिकुम्भिलाम् ।
tataḥ prekṣya hanūmantaṃ vrajantaṃ yatra rāghavaḥ | sa hotukāmo duṣṭātmā gataś caityaṃ nikumbhilām ||
その後、ハヌマーンがラाघヴァのもとへ向かうのを見て、供物を捧げようとする邪悪な心の者は、ニクンビラーの聖所へ赴いた。
The flame had swollen up with the offering of blood as oblation and risen. It was very bright and wrapped in the flames the fire resembled the sun.
The verse contrasts dharmic purpose and adharmic intent: ritual acts gain moral meaning from intention; wicked intent can misuse sacred forms.
As Hanuman moves to report to Rama, Indrajit shifts to a ritual strategy at Nikumbhilā to gain advantage.
Alertness and duty in communication (Hanuman), set against calculated, unethical opportunism (Indrajit).
