その王は、挑み満ちた響きある言葉と、弓弦の荒々しい音を聞くや、堅く立つサウミトリーに迫り、怒りに燃えて羅刹は言い放った。
Hearing the challenging statement of the king of Rakshasas and hearing the vibrating sound, Saumithri standing close by spoke these wrathful words.
It warns that anger (krodha) distorts judgment; dharma requires self-mastery, especially for rulers and warriors whose emotions can decide life and death.
Rāvaṇa hears Lakṣmaṇa’s challenge and the bow’s fierce twang, then advances and prepares to reply in wrath.
Steadfastness in Saumitrī (standing firm) is contrasted with wrath in Rāvaṇa (loss of inner balance).
