Deluded with anger Ravana along with both the spies observed the sea, the mountains and the woods crowded with monkeys in that region of the earth.
Krodha (anger) obscures discernment; dharma requires self-mastery so that perception and decisions align with truth (satya) rather than emotional distortion.
Rāvaṇa surveys the terrain and witnesses the immense Vanara presence spread across the landscape near the shore.
By contrast, the verse highlights the need for restraint; Rāvaṇa’s anger-clouded state underscores the absence of the kingly virtue of self-control.
