Dadhimukha Reports the Madhuvana Incident
evam ete hatāḥ śūrāḥ tvayi tiṣṭhati bhartari | kṛtsnaṃ madhuvanaṃ caiva prakāmaṃ taiḥ prabhakṣyate ॥5.63.10॥
These heroes struck that way devoured the Madhuvanam on the earth at their will and devoured the honey even when you are there as king.
Even the powerful must respect lawful boundaries; dharma includes honoring the king’s order and the rights of protected spaces, not acting purely ‘at will’ (prakāmaṃ).
Dadhimukha reports that the returning vanara heroes have forcibly consumed the royal honey-grove despite Sugrīva’s kingship.
Dadhimukha’s duty-consciousness and loyalty to his charge (guardianship of Madhuvana) are emphasized.
