Hanuman’s Post-Conflagration Self-Examination and Assurance of Sita’s Safety
मया खलु तदेवेदं रोषदोषात्प्रदर्शितम्।प्रथितं त्रिषु लोकेषु कपित्वमनवस्थितम्।।।।
mayā khalu tad evedaṃ roṣadoṣāt pradarśitam |
prathitaṃ triṣu lokeṣu kapitvam anavasthitam ||
まことに、怒りという過ちによって、私はあの気まぐれな「猿の本性」を露呈し、三界にその悪名を轟かせてしまった。
'On account of my mistake of yielding to anger, I have exhibited the unstable monkey-nature and made it well established in the three worlds.
Guarding one’s nature through discipline: dharma requires transforming impulsive tendencies; anger publicizes one’s weakness and undermines truthful, steady conduct.
In remorse, Hanumān interprets the burning of Laṅkā as an anger-driven lapse and criticizes himself for confirming stereotypes of instability.
Self-awareness and repentance: he recognizes an inner fault and names it plainly, aligning himself with satya (truthfulness) about the self.
