Hanuman’s Deliberation on How to Address Sita
अवेक्षमाणस्तां देवीं देवतामिव नन्दने।ततो बहुविधां चिन्तां चिन्तयामास वानरः।।।।
avekṣamāṇas tāṃ devīṃ devatām iva nandane | tato bahuvidhāṃ cintāṃ cintayāmāsa vānaraḥ ||
天上の園に在す女神のごときその神々しい御方を見つめつつ、ヴァーナラはやがて、さまざまな思案に沈んだ。
"If I get the lord of vanaras and his army for the cause of Rama (without talking to Sita), their arrival will be useless (if Sita would have given up her life by then).
Dharma here appears as thoughtful restraint: before acting, one must reflect on consequences so that one’s help does not inadvertently cause harm.
Hanumān has located Sītā in Laṅkā and, seeing her condition, begins carefully thinking through how to approach and speak to her.
Prudence (viveka) combined with compassion—Hanumān’s concern is not merely to act quickly, but to act rightly and safely.
