Bharata and Guha: Trust, Hospitality, and the Burden of Grief
dhanyas tvaṁ na tvayā tulyaṁ paśyāmi jagatītale |
ayatnād āgataṁ rājyaṁ yas tvaṁ tyaktum ihecchasi ||2.85.12||
You desire to bring back Rama who is in great difficulty. This everlasting fame of yours will spread all over the world.
Dharma here is self-restraint and righteousness over power: Bharata values rightful succession and moral duty above personal gain.
Guha praises Bharata for intending to give up the kingship that has become available to him and for seeking Rama instead.
Bharata’s integrity and detachment—his refusal to benefit from an unrighteous outcome.
