Sita’s Rebuke of Ravana; Removal to the Ashoka Grove
यदि पश्येत्स रामस्त्वां रोषदीप्तेन चक्षुषा।रक्षस्त्वमद्य निर्धग्धो गच्छेस्सद्यः पराभवम्।।।।
yadi paśyet sa rāmas tvāṃ roṣadīptena cakṣuṣā |
rakṣas tvam adya nirdagdho gacches sadyaḥ parābhavam ||
羅刹よ、もしラーマが怒りに燃える眼でおまえを見たなら、まさに今日にもおまえは焼き尽くされ、たちまち滅びに至るであろう。
O demon, you will be completely consumed if Rama looks at you with eyes burning in anger.
Dharma includes the duty to restrain evil: righteous power, when directed against adharma, becomes protective justice rather than cruelty.
Sītā warns Rāvaṇa of the consequences if Rāma becomes aware and confronts him.
Sītā’s courage and truth-speaking: she does not flatter power but speaks plainly about moral and karmic consequence.
