Sita’s Abduction and Ravana’s Entry into Lanka
तां जहार सुसंहृष्टो रावणो मृत्युमात्मनः।।।।उत्सङ्गेनेव भुजगीं तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रां महाविषाम्।
tāṃ jahāra susaṃhṛṣṭo rāvaṇo mṛtyum ātmanaḥ |
utsaṅgena iva bhujagīṃ tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭrāṃ mahāviṣām ||
歓喜に満ちてラーヴァナは彼女を奪い去った――それは彼自身の死であるのに――まるで鋭い牙をもち猛毒の雌蛇を膝に抱き上げる者のように。
The best among the tawney-eyed monkeys gazed, without blinking, at the large-eyed Sita lamenting.
Unrighteous desire blinds one to consequences; adharma carries its own punishment, becoming the very cause of downfall.
Rāvaṇa rejoices while abducting Sītā, unaware she is the catalyst of his destruction.
Implicitly, dharma’s protective power around Sītā—she is portrayed as untouchable by adharma without it rebounding upon the perpetrator.
