मारीचोपदेशः — Maricha’s Counsel to Ravana
On Rama’s Dharma and the Peril of Abduction
कथं त्वं तस्य वैदेहीं रक्षितां स्वेन तेजसा।इच्छसि प्रसभं हर्तुं प्रभामिव विवस्वतः।।।।
kathaṃ tvaṃ tasya vaidehīṃ rakṣitāṃ svena tejasā | icchasi prasabhaṃ hartuṃ prabhām iva vivasvataḥ ||
いかにして汝は、ラーマ自身の光輝と威力に守られるヴァイデーヒーを、力ずくで奪おうとするのか。太陽の光を太陽そのものから引き離せようか。
You should not enter into the unquenchable fire that is Rama, the fire that has the arrows (of Rama) as its flames and his sword and bow as fuel.
Adharma—abduction and coercion—cannot succeed against dharmic protection; the righteous are safeguarded by the moral and martial power (tejas) of the protector.
Mārīca warns Rāvaṇa against abducting Sītā, arguing it is as impossible as separating sunlight from the Sun.
Rāma’s tejas (righteous might) and Sītā’s inviolability as a protected, lawful wife.
