The Battle with Khara’s Host at the Hermitage
हयान्काञ्चनसन्नाहान्रथयुक्तान्ससारथीन्।।3.25.22।।गजांश्च सगजारोहान्सहयान्सादिनस्तथा।पदातीन्समरे हत्वा ह्यनयद्यमसादनम्।।3.25.23।।
hayān kāñcanasannāhān rathayuktān sasārathīn || (3.25.22)
gajāṃś ca sagajārōhān sahayān sādinās tathā |
padātīn samare hatvā hy anayad yamasādanam || (3.25.23)
(前節の反復)戦場においてラーマは、御者とともに戦車の隊を、騎乗の者とともに象を、馬とともに騎兵を、そして歩兵を討ち—死の主ヤマの住処へと送った。
He killed horses with golden armours yoked to the chariots along with charioteers, elephants along with riders, the cavalry along with their horses and infantry and sent them all to the abode of death.
Even in repeated transmission, the ethical point remains: righteous protection may require decisive action that ends the aggressor’s capacity to harm.
A duplicated pāṭha reiterates Rama’s destruction of the enemy’s combined arms in battle.
Consistency in duty—Rama’s unwavering commitment to end the threat is emphasized through repetition.
