The Consecration (Anointing) of Indra
वासुदेव उवाच । भवत्या देवकार्यार्थं गंतव्यं मानुषीं तनुम् । तदाहं तव गर्भे वै वासं यास्यामि निश्चितम्
vāsudeva uvāca | bhavatyā devakāryārthaṃ gaṃtavyaṃ mānuṣīṃ tanum | tadāhaṃ tava garbhe vai vāsaṃ yāsyāmi niścitam
ヴァースデーヴァは言った。「神々の御業のため、汝は赴きて人の身を取らねばならぬ。ゆえに、われは必ず汝の胎内に住まう。」
Vāsudeva
Concept: Bhagavān voluntarily assumes human embodiment (avatāra) to restore dharma and relieve cosmic imbalance, while remaining sovereign and intentional.
Application: Treat life’s duties as participation in dharma-restoration; cultivate trust that the Divine can enter ordinary circumstances and sanctify them.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Vāsudeva, radiant and four-armed yet softened by compassion, addresses the Devī with calm certainty, declaring His chosen descent into a human womb for the devas’ task. The scene balances cosmic vastness—subtle lotus and star motifs—with intimate maternal sanctity, as if the universe itself leans toward incarnation.","primary_figures":["Vāsudeva (Viṣṇu)","Devī (as the addressed goddess/mother-to-be)","attendant devas (subtle, in the background)"],"setting":"A celestial chamber that blends into a sanctified inner shrine—lotus pillars, faint constellations, and a symbolic womb-lotus (garbha-padma) motif behind the Devī.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["sapphire blue","lotus pink","gold leaf","pearl white","deep emerald"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Vāsudeva with śaṅkha-cakra-gadā-padma, standing beside a serene Devī seated on a lotus throne; heavy gold leaf halo, embossed lotus borders, gem-studded ornaments, rich crimson and emerald textiles, a symbolic garbha-padma behind the Devī, tiny devas in the upper corners offering flowers.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: a lyrical celestial pavilion with delicate arches; Vāsudeva in soft sapphire garments speaks gently to the Devī; cool pastel sky with fine star-dots, refined facial features, subtle lotus motifs, thin gold accents, intimate composition emphasizing the vow of descent.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold black outlines and warm natural pigments; Vāsudeva’s large expressive eyes and ornate crown; Devī in red-yellow-green attire; stylized lotus background and temple-wall aesthetic; the ‘womb-lotus’ symbol rendered as a central mandala behind Devī.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: Vishnu-centered composition with abundant lotus vines and floral borders; Vāsudeva’s aura as a circular mandala; attendants offering tulasi and flowers (even if not explicit in verse, as Vaishnava visual code); deep indigo ground with gold detailing and peacock accents framing the incarnation theme."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"devotional","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"reverent-soft","sound_elements":["soft temple bells","conch shell (distant)","gentle drone (tanpura)","silence between phrases"]}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: देवकार्यार्थम् = देवकार्य + अर्थम् (समास/समाहार); तदाहं = तदा + अहम् (दीर्घसन्धि); वासं यास्यामि = वासम् + यास्यामि (म् before y often written as ं).
It expresses the avatāra principle: Vāsudeva (Viṣṇu) willingly assumes a human context and enters a womb to accomplish a divine purpose (deva-kārya).
It indicates a cosmic mandate—an incarnation is undertaken not for personal gain but to fulfill a task connected with restoring order and aiding the gods’ purpose.
It emphasizes purposeful action and self-offering: even the highest divinity accepts limitation (human embodiment) to protect and uphold dharma.
