Madhusūdana (Vishnu/Krishna)

FAQs

Madhusūdana is a celebrated name of Vishnu (also used for Krishna), meaning “slayer of the demon Madhu,” here praised as the cosmic Lord and refuge.

It expresses Vishnu’s all-pervading, cosmic form (viśvarūpa): the entire universe is sustained within him, indicating his transcendence and immanence.

By declaring “I take refuge” (śaraṇaṃ vrajāmi), it presents surrender to Vishnu as a direct spiritual approach, coupled with constant remembrance praised by Vedic knowers.
