The Greatness of the Month of Māgha
Māgha-snāna, Harivāsara, and the Kāṣṭhīlā-Upākhyāna

ゆえに、マーガ月の水はとりわけ清めの力をもつ。戦場の勇士でさえ、これほどの安楽を授ける成就(福徳の境地)を得ることはない。
Narada
Vrata: Māgha-snāna / Māgha-vrata (implied)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: vira
It declares Māgha-month water as exceptionally sanctifying and claims its spiritual fruit surpasses even the celebrated “heroic” attainments gained through battle, emphasizing tīrtha-based purification and merit (puṇya).
By praising Māgha purification as a superior ‘gati’ that grants happiness, the verse supports the bhakti-oriented Purāṇic idea that simple, faith-filled sacred practices (like tīrtha bathing) can lead to blessed outcomes beyond worldly heroism.
It reflects Jyotiṣa-based sacred time (kāla)—the special efficacy of the Māgha month—guiding ritual practice (snāna/vrata) according to auspicious calendrical timing.
