Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It warns that neglecting one’s rightful svadharma and imitating another’s path leads to deep tamas (spiritual obscuration) and prolonged suffering, emphasizing disciplined alignment with one’s ordained duties.
Bhakti in the Narada Purana is meant to be practiced without violating dharma; the verse implies devotion must be integrated with one’s svadharma rather than pursued through improper imitation of others’ roles or practices.
The verse reflects Dharmashastra-style application of Vedic norms: correct determination of svadharma (often guided by smriti and customary conduct) and avoidance of adharmic role-confusion, rather than a specific technical Vedanga like Jyotisha or Vyakarana.
