सनन्दन उवाच । वैदिकं लौकिकं चापि छन्दो द्विविधमुच्यते । मात्रावर्णविभेदेन तच्चापि द्विविधं पुनः ॥ १ ॥
sanandana uvāca | vaidikaṃ laukikaṃ cāpi chando dvividhamucyate | mātrāvarṇavibhedena taccāpi dvividhaṃ punaḥ || 1 ||
サナンダナは言った。「韻律(chandas)は二種、すなわちヴェーダの韻律と世間(古典)の韻律とが説かれる。さらにそれも、mātrā(音量・長短)と varṇa(音節・音声の型)の差別によって、また二種に分かれる。」
