Adhyāya 61: Saṃmohana-astra and the Kuru Withdrawal
dhārtarāṣṭravaṇaṃ ghoraṃ narasiṃhābhirakṣitam | ahamutpāṭayiṣyāmi vairāṭe vyetu te bhayam ||
Courage grounded in duty: a protector-leader reassures the fearful by taking responsibility upon himself, modeling kṣatriya resolve—fear should be removed through steadfast action and confidence in righteous strength.
In the Virāṭa episode, the speaker (in narration by Vaiśampāyana) conveys a warrior’s pledge to destroy the Kaurava threat—likened to a ‘forest’ guarded by lion-like men—so that the Virāṭa prince may abandon fear.
