Dhanaṃjaya’s Reassurance and the Opening Engagement
दिव्यानां सर्वमाल्यानां गन्ध: पुण्यो5थ सर्वशः । प्रससार वसन्ताग्रे वनानामिव भारत
divyānāṁ sarvamālyānāṁ gandhaḥ puṇyo ’tha sarvaśaḥ | prasasāra vasantāgre vanānām iva bhārata ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。そのとき、あらゆる天上の花鬘の清らかな香りが四方に広がった——おお、バーラタよ——まるで春の訪れの初めに、森々を満たす芳香のように。この光景は吉兆に満ち、心を高める気配を帯びていた。出来事の流れの中に、恩寵と好ましい徴が差し込む一刻であった。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Auspiciousness and purity are conveyed through sensory imagery: the spreading fragrance symbolizes a wholesome, elevating influence that pervades the surroundings, implying favorable conditions and a sanctified moment within the narrative.
The narrator describes how the scent of divine garlands diffuses in all directions, compared to the way forests become fragrant at the onset of spring, setting an auspicious tone for the events being recounted.
