वर्तमाना यथाशास्त्र प्राप्प चापि महीमिमाम्‌ । सत्कुर्वन्ति महाभागा गुरून्‌ सुविगुणानपि,महान्‌ सौभाग्यशाली श्रेष्ठ पुरुष शास्त्रकी आज्ञाके अनुसार बर्ताव करते हुए न्यायसे इस पृथ्वीको प्राप्त करके भी अत्यन्त गुणहीन गुरुजनोंका भी सत्कार करते हैं (और यहाँ अन्यायसे राज्य लेकर गुणवान्‌ गुरुजनोंका भी तिरस्कार हो रहा है)

vartamānā yathāśāstraṁ prāpya cāpi mahīm imām | satkurvanti mahābhāgā gurūn suviguṇān api ||

クリパは言った。「高貴にして幸運なる者は、シャーストラの戒めに従って振る舞い、たとえ正当な道によってこの大地(王権)を得た後であっても、師を敬い奉る——その師に徳が欠けていようとも。だがここでは、不義によって得た王国ゆえに、徳ある長老までもが侮られている。」

Even when one gains power legitimately, dharma requires humility and reverence toward teachers and elders; true nobility is shown by honoring gurus regardless of their personal shortcomings, whereas unjustly gained rule tends to erode respect even for the deserving.
