Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 21 — Kīcaka’s clandestine approach and Bhīma’s covert intervention
jayadrathaṃ tathaiva tvam ajaiṣī bhrātṛbhiḥ saha | jahīmam api pāpiṣṭhaṃ yo 'yaṃ mām avamanyate ||
The verse frames contemptuous humiliation as a moral offense that demands decisive protection of dignity and justice. It invokes precedent (Jayadratha’s defeat) to justify firm action against a powerful wrongdoer, aligning strength with the duty to restrain adharma.
During the Pāṇḍavas’ incognito stay in Virāṭa’s court, Kīcaka behaves arrogantly and dishonours those under the Pāṇḍavas’ protection. Bhīma urges that, just as Jayadratha was once overcome, Kīcaka too should now be slain for his insulting conduct.
