दूयामि भरतमश्रेष्ठ दृष्ट॒वा ते भ्रातरं प्रियम् । गोषु गोवृषसंकाशं मत्स्येनाभिनिवेशितम्,भरतश्रेष्ठ! साँड़के समान हृष्ट-पुष्ट तुम्हारे प्रिय भ्राता सहदेवको राजा विराढके द्वारा गौओंकी सेवामें लगाया गया देख मुझे बड़ा दुःख होता है
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: dūyāmi bharataśreṣṭha dṛṣṭvā te bhrātaraṁ priyam | goṣu govṛṣasaṅkāśaṁ matsyenābhiniveśitam ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「おお、バラタ族の最勝者よ。牛の群れの中の高貴な牡牛のように輝き逞しい、そなたの愛しき弟サハデーヴァが、マツヤ王によって牛の世話役として仕えさせられているのを見ると、私は胸が痛む。その身分の転落は、私を深く悲しませる。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as steadfast endurance: even those of high birth accept humble roles without resentment when bound by a vow and necessity. Ethical strength is shown in self-control, patience, and commitment to a chosen duty despite social reversal.
During the Pandavas’ incognito year in the Matsya kingdom, Sahadeva is assigned by King Virāṭa to work among the cattle. The narrator expresses sorrow at seeing a noble warrior reduced to cow-service, underscoring the hardship of concealment and exile.
