Even in hardship and exile, dharma is upheld through generosity, hospitality, and reverence for sacred learning: the Pāṇḍavas practice austerity while ensuring Brāhmaṇas are honored and sustained with whatever pure means the forest provides.
During their forest life, the Pāṇḍavas repeatedly feed and honor Brāhmaṇas with forest fare and also give them wealth. They then proceed with the Brāhmaṇas to a revered sacred site—Brahmā’s altar—frequented by ascetics, where they reside while performing disciplined austerities.
