Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas
Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
कोटितीर्थ नरः स्नात्वा गोसहस्रफलं लभेत्
koṭitīrtha naraḥ snātvā gosahasraphalaṃ labhet
プラースティヤは宣言する。「コーティティールタ(Koṭitīrtha)で沐浴する者は、牛千頭を施すのと等しい功徳を得る。」
पुलस्त्य उवाच
The verse teaches that sincere observance of a sacred bath at a recognized tīrtha can yield great spiritual merit, here equated with the highly valued charitable act of donating a thousand cows—highlighting both the sanctity of tīrthas and the ethical ideal of generosity.
Pulastya is describing the merits (phala-śruti) of specific pilgrimage sites in the Vana Parva’s tīrtha-yātrā context, stating that bathing at Koṭitīrtha grants the fruit of a thousand-cow gift.
