Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas
Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
idaṃ devarṣicaritaṃ sarvatīrthābhisaṃvṛtam | yaḥ paṭhet kalyam utthāya sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate ||
The verse presents a phalaśruti: reverent recitation of a sacred seer’s narrative—especially at dawn—is itself a dharmic practice that confers purification, equated here with the accumulated merit of visiting all tīrthas, and leads to release from sin.
Nārada concludes or endorses the preceding sacred account by declaring its sanctifying power, praising it as containing the merit of all pilgrimage sites and prescribing dawn-recitation as a means to moral and spiritual cleansing.
