आहूय पृथिवीपाल: सत्यधर्मपरायण: । देवने कुशलैर्जिह्नौ्वतं राज्यं वसूनि च

Transliteration

bṛhadaśva uvāca | āhūya pṛthivīpālaḥ satyadharmaparāyaṇaḥ | devane kuśalair jihnaiḥ vṛtaṁ rājyaṁ vasūni ca ||

Translation

ブリハダシュヴァは語った。真実とダルマに帰依する王は彼らを召し寄せた。だが賭博において、狡猾で欺きに長けた者どもに出し抜かれ、かくして王国と財宝を奪われたのである。この一節は、たとえ正しき統治者であっても、技と詐欺とが結びつく悪習に踏み入れば滅び得ること、そしてダルマには徳のみならず警戒も要ることを示している。
