यद् वयं न तदैवैतान् धार्तराष्ट्रानू निहन्महि । भवत: शास्त्रमादाय तन्नस्तपति दुष्कृतम्,“आपके शासनको मानकर जो हमलोगोंने उसी समय इन धृतराष्ट्रपुत्रोंकी मार नहीं डाला, वह दुष्कर्म हमें आज भी संताप दे रहा है
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
yad vayaṁ na tadaivaitān dhārtarāṣṭrān na nihanhmahi |
bhavataḥ śāstram ādāya tan nas tapati duṣkṛtam ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「あの時ただちに、ドリタラーシュトラの子らを討たなかったこと――あなたの戒めを受け入れ、それに従ったがゆえに――その過ちが今もなお悔恨の火となって我らを焼き、今日に至るまで鎮まらぬのだ。」
