सानूनिवाद्रे: संसुप्तान् दृष्टवा भ्रातृून् महामति: । सुखं प्रसुप्तान् प्रस्विन्न: खिन्न: कष्टां दशां गत:
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca | sānu-nīvādreḥ saṃsuptān dṛṣṭvā bhrātṝn mahāmatiḥ | sukhaṃ prasuptān prasvinnaḥ khinnaḥ kaṣṭāṃ daśāṃ gataḥ | dharmaputro mahābāhur vilalāpa suvistaram ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。兄弟たちが、まるで眠っているかのように、地に倒れた山の峰のごとく横たわるのを見て、法の子にして大いなる心を持つ者は打ちのめされた。彼らは安らかな眠りに就いたように見えたが、彼は恐るべき真実を悟った。苦悶し、汗に濡れ、熱く重い息をついた。悲しみと不安に沈み、強き腕を持つユディシュティラは、兄弟すべてが倒れ伏すのを見て、涙に目を満たしながら久しく泣き嘆いた。
