Ajñātavāsa-saṅkalpaḥ — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Resolve and Dhaumya’s Exempla on Concealment
sāvitrī uvāca—śramaḥ kuto bhartṛ-samīpato hi me yato hi bhartā mama sā gatir dhruvā | yataḥ patiṁ neṣyasi tatra me gatiḥ sureśa bhūyaś ca vaco nibodha me ||
Unwavering commitment to dharma expressed as steadfast loyalty and moral resolve: Sāvitrī frames her duty and destiny as inseparable from her husband’s path, presenting devotion not as weakness but as principled determination.
After Yama has taken Satyavān’s life, Sāvitrī continues to follow Yama. When questioned about her endurance, she replies that being near her husband removes any sense of fatigue and that wherever Yama leads her husband, she must and will go as well, urging Yama to hear her further.
