Kṣānti–Tejas Viveka: Prahlāda’s Instruction to Bali
Draupadī’s Application
etaiḥ hi rājā niyataṃ codyamānaḥ śamaṃ prati | rājyaṃ dāsyatīti me buddhir na cel lobhān naśiṣyati ||
Persistent counsel toward peace is portrayed as the righteous path; refusal to act justly out of greed leads to downfall. The verse contrasts śama (peaceful restraint) with lobha (greed) as decisive forces in political and moral outcomes.
Yudhiṣṭhira expresses confidence that if elders and well-wishers continually press the king (Dhṛtarāṣṭra) toward reconciliation, the king will restore the rightful kingdom. If the king refuses, Yudhiṣṭhira predicts that greed will bring about the king’s ruin.
