रामस्य पम्पातीरगमनम्, सुग्रीवसख्यं, वालिवधः, सीतारक्षणवृत्तान्तश्च

दृष्टवा5<यान्तं तमतिर्थिं स च राजा युधिषिर:,श्रीमान्‌ राजा युधिष्ठिर अतिथिको आते देख भाइयोंसहित उनके सम्मुख गये। वे अपनी मर्यादासे कभी च्युत नहीं होते थे। उन्होंने उन अतिथिदेवताको लाकर श्रेष्ठ आसनपर आदरपूर्वक बैठाया और हाथ जोड़कर प्रणाम किया। फिर विधिपूर्वक पूजा करके उन्हें अतिथिसत्कारके रूपमें निमन्त्रित किया और कहा--“भगवन्‌! अपना नित्य नियम पूरा करके (भोजनके लिये) शीघ्र पधारिये”

dṛṣṭvā āyāntaṃ tam atithiṃ sa ca rājā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ śrīmān atithiko bhāryābhrātṛ-sahitaḥ tasya sammukhaṃ jagāma | sa maryādāyāḥ kadācana na cyutaḥ | sa taṃ atithidevatā-svarūpaṃ nītvā śreṣṭhāsane ādara-pūrvakaṃ nyaveśayat | karābhyāṃ praṇamya tataḥ vidhi-pūrvakaṃ pūjayitvā atithi-satkāra-rūpeṇa nimantrayām āsa, uvāca ca— “bhagavan, nitya-niyamaṃ samāpya bhojanārthaṃ śīghraṃ padhāryatām” iti |

客が近づくのを見て、もてなしの務めを常に忘れぬ名高き王ユディシュティラは、兄弟らとともに前へ出て迎えた。彼は礼を失うことがなかった。客を「客神」として敬い、上座に恭しく座らせ、合掌して礼拝した。さらに作法どおりに供養を行い、客礼として食事に招いて言った。「尊き御方よ、日々の行をお済ませになったなら、どうか速やかにお戻りになり、食をお取りください。」
