Kṛtayuga Description and Instruction on Royal Dharma
सिंहिकातनयांश्वापि ये चान्ये सुरशत्रव: । यच्च किंचिन्मया लोके दृष्टं स्थावरजड्रमम्
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca | siṃhikātanayānś cāpi ye cānye suraśatravaḥ | yac ca kiṃcin mayā loke dṛṣṭaṃ sthāvara-jaṅgamam, pṛthvīpate, sādhyā rudrā ādityā guhyakāḥ pitaro sarpā nāgāḥ suparṇā vasavo 'śvinīkumārā gandharvā apsaraso yakṣā ṛṣayaś ca mayā dṛṣṭāḥ | daitya-dānava-saṃghā nāgāḥ siṃhikā-putrā (rāhu-ādayaḥ) tathānye deva-śatravaś ca dṛṣṭāḥ | rājan, asmin loke mayā yad yat sthāvara-jaṅgamaṃ dṛṣṭaṃ tat sarvaṃ tasya mahātmanaḥ kukṣau me dṛṣṭi-gocaraṃ babhūva | mahārāja, ahaṃ pratidinaṃ phalāhāraṃ karomi, asmin sampūrṇe jagati paryaṭāmi ca |
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。「我はまた、シンヒカーの子らと、他の神々の敵をも見た。そしてこの世で我が見たことのある一切—固定せるものも動くものも—大地の主よ、そのすべてが、あの大魂の腹中において我に見えるものとなった。我はサーディヤ、ルドラ、アーディティヤ、グヒヤカ、ピトリ、蛇とナーガ、スパルナ、ヴァス、アシュヴィンの双神、ガンダルヴァ、アプサラス、ヤクシャ、そしてリシたちを見た。ダイティヤとダーナヴァの群れ、ナーガ、シンヒカーの子ら(ラーフら)および他のデーヴァの敵をも見た。王よ、存在の全域として我が知覚したすべてが、彼の内に集められているかのように我に現れた。そして大王よ、我は日々果実を食として生き、この全世界をなお彷徨し続けたのだ。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The passage emphasizes the vastness and interconnectedness of existence: all classes of beings—divine, human, and demonic; mobile and immobile—can be comprehended as contained within a single greater reality. It also implicitly values restraint and simplicity (living on fruits) alongside the pursuit of understanding through experience and wandering.
Vaiśaṃpāyana reports a marvel: the speaker has seen an all-encompassing vision where every kind of being previously encountered in the world appears within the belly of a ‘mahātmā’. He lists many celestial and subterranean classes (Sādhyas, Rudras, Nāgas, Gandharvas, Daityas, Rāhu, etc.) and adds that he continues to roam the world while sustaining himself on fruits.
