Sukanyā’s Encounter with the Aśvins and Cyavana’s Rejuvenation
tataḥ sukanyā sabrīḍā tāv uvāca surottamau | śaryātitanayāṃ vittaṃ bhāryā māṃ cyavanasya ca ||
The verse highlights dharma through Sukanyā’s clear assertion of her lawful marital status and lineage, emphasizing fidelity, modesty, and the maintenance of ethical boundaries even when approached by powerful beings.
Sukanyā, feeling shy, speaks to two divine figures and identifies herself as King Śaryāti’s daughter and the wife of the sage Cyavana, implicitly refusing any improper attention and reaffirming her commitment.
