Kaṇva’s Counsel on Impermanent Power; Opening of the Mātali–Guṇakeśī Narrative
yady etad evaṁ jānāsi na ca mām abhiśaṅkase | āryāṁ matiṁ samāsthāya śāmya bhārata pāṇḍavaiḥ ||
When one recognizes the truth and trusts reliable guidance, one should adopt ārya (noble) judgment and choose peace—reconciliation is presented as the ethically superior option to conflict.
In the pre-war context of the Udyoga Parva, Rāma addresses a Bharata/Kuru figure, urging him: if he understands the situation correctly and does not doubt the speaker, he should take up noble counsel and conclude peace with the Pāṇḍavas.
