Omens and Reception During Keśava’s Departure
te hayā vāsudevasya dārukeṇa pracoditāḥ | panthānam ācemur iva grasamānā ivāmbaram ||
The verse highlights disciplined power directed by competent guidance: immense force (the horses’ speed) becomes meaningful and safe only when properly steered (by Dāruka) in service of a higher purpose (Vāsudeva’s mission). Ethically, it suggests that energy and capability should be governed by skill, restraint, and dharmic intent.
Vaiśampāyana describes Kṛṣṇa’s chariot team accelerating rapidly. Dāruka urges the horses on, and their speed is poetically compared to consuming the road and nearly swallowing the sky, conveying urgency as the story advances toward decisive political and martial developments.
