Omens and Reception During Keśava’s Departure
भीष्म द्रोणं कृपं चैव महाराजं च बाह्विकम् | द्रौ्णिंच सोमदत्तं च सर्वाश्ष भरतान् प्रति
bhīṣmaṃ droṇaṃ kṛpaṃ caiva mahārājaṃ ca bāhvīkam | drauṇiṃ ca somadattaṃ ca sarvāṃś ca bharatān prati ||
ユディシュティラは言った。「(私は訴えかけよう)ビーシュマ、ドローナ、そしてクリパに。さらに王バーフリーカに。ドローナの子アシュヴァッターマンに。ソーマダッタに――まことに、すべてのバラタ族に。」この瞬間、ユディシュティラの言葉は、迫る嘆願を単なる政略の駆け引きではなく、暴力を抑える要となる権威と良心を備えた、尊ぶべき長老と同族へのダルマの呼びかけとして位置づけている。
युधिष्ठिर उवाच
Even in the approach to war, dharma requires first appealing to conscience, seniority, and kinship bonds—especially by addressing elders and teachers whose moral authority can avert or limit adharma.
Yudhiṣṭhira enumerates the principal Kuru elders and leaders—Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Kṛpa, Bāhlīka, Aśvatthāmā, Somadatta, and the wider Bharata clan—indicating those to whom his forthcoming words or appeal are directed in the tense pre-war negotiations of the Udyoga Parva.
