अध्याय ८ — शल्यस्य सत्कारः, वरदानं, पाण्डवसमागमश्च (Śalya’s Reception, the Boon, and Meeting the Pāṇḍavas)

शल्य उवाच शृणु पाण्डव ते भद्रं यद्‌ ब्रवीषि महात्मन: । तेजोवधनिमित्तं मां सूतपुत्रस्य सड़मे

śalya uvāca śṛṇu pāṇḍava te bhadraṁ yad bravīṣi mahātmanaḥ | tejovadha-nimittaṁ māṁ sūta-putrasya saṅgame ||

シャリヤは言った。「聞け、パーンドゥの子よ。汝に吉祥あれ。高き心を持つ汝の言葉はもっともだ――来たる戦において、スータの子(カルナ)の輝きと闘志をそぐ手立てとして、この私を用いようというのだな。すでに定まっている。あの戦では私が彼の御者となろう。しかもカルナ自身、御者の技において私を主シュリー・クリシュナに比すべき者と、久しく見なしてきたのだ。」
