Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Inquiry to Saṃjaya on Strategic Comparisons
brūhi saṃjaya yaccheṣaṃ vāsudevād anantaram | yad arjuna uvāca tvāṃ paraṃ kautūhalaṃ hi me || 2 ||
The verse highlights a dharmic attitude toward decision-making: before momentous action, one should seek the complete account and weigh what remains unsaid. The speaker’s intense curiosity is not idle; it is a demand for full context—especially important in ethical and political deliberations preceding war.
The listener asks Sañjaya to continue the report and specifically to recount what Arjuna said after Kṛṣṇa (Vāsudeva). It signals that Kṛṣṇa has already delivered a message or counsel, and now the audience wants to hear Arjuna’s concluding words that followed.
