Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 64: Arjuna’s Instruction to Sanjaya
Message to the Kuru Assembly
tiṣṭha tāta satāṁ vākye suhṛdām arthavādinām | vṛddha śāntanavaṁ bhīṣmaṁ titikṣasva pitāmaham ||
One should adhere to the guidance of virtuous people and true well-wishers, and show patient forbearance toward revered elders—especially when they offer corrective counsel for one’s welfare.
In Udyoga Parva, as tensions rise before the great war, Vidura counsels the Kuru authority to heed good advice and to tolerate Bhīṣma’s stern guidance, recognizing him as the venerable grandsire whose words aim at the kingdom’s welfare.
