The Convergence of Armies
babhūva kauraveyāṇāṃ balenātīva saṃvṛtaḥ | tatra sainyaṃ tathā yuktaṃ dadarśa sa purohitaḥ ||
The verse highlights a moral-political contrast: when a party becomes 'covered' by military power, dialogue and restraint tend to be eclipsed. It implicitly warns that reliance on force (bala) over righteous counsel and conciliation accelerates the slide toward adharma and war.
A royal priest sent as an emissary (from Drupada’s side, per the surrounding context) reaches the Kauravas and sees their forces amassed and properly arrayed. The scene establishes the Kauravas’ readiness for conflict and sets the diplomatic mission against the backdrop of looming war.
