Ambā’s Vow of Tapas after Paraśurāma’s Assessment (अम्बाया तपोव्रतनिश्चयः)
पुन: पुनर्याच्यमानो दिष्टमित्यब्रवीच्छिव: । न तदन्यच्च भविता भवितव्यं हि तत् तथा
punaḥ punar yācyamāno diṣṭam ity abravīc chivaḥ | na tad anyac ca bhavitā bhavitavyaṃ hi tat tathā ||
ビーシュマは言った。幾度となく願い出ても、シヴァは「それは宿命の定めである」と答え、さらに「他の形にはならぬ。まさにそのとおりに起こるべきものだからだ」と告げられた。
भीष्म उवाच
Even sincere effort and repeated supplication cannot overturn what is divinely ordained; a boon may be fixed in form, and dharma includes accepting the limits set by destiny while acting rightly within them.
Śiva, though repeatedly petitioned, declares that the granted outcome is 'diṣṭa'—already decreed—and therefore cannot be altered; the speaker (Bhīṣma) cites this to emphasize the inevitability of what must occur.
