Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge
Anger can eclipse judgment so thoroughly that even legitimate, compassionate counsel—especially from elders or one’s own mother—fails to guide action. The verse implicitly commends self-mastery as a prerequisite for dharmic decision-making.
Gaṅgā returns to Bhīṣma out of maternal affection and attempts to speak to him, but Bhīṣma, visibly overtaken by anger (his gaze disturbed), does not accept or act upon her words.
