The verse highlights dharmic conduct in receiving a formidable and revered figure: promptness, respectful approach, and sincere goodwill. Even amid tensions of power, Bhīṣma models disciplined courtesy and recognition of spiritual/heroic excellence (tejas).
Bhīṣma hears that Paraśurāma—renowned for immense strength and ascetic power—has arrived at the border of his territory. Pleased, Bhīṣma hastens to meet him, setting the stage for their consequential interaction.
