Krishna’s Theophanic Display in the Kuru Assembly
ahaṁ tu sarvās tanayān anujānāmi te nṛpa | etac chrutvā tu viduraṁ dhṛtarāṣṭro 'bhyabhāṣata | kṣipram ānaya taṁ pāpaṁ rājya-lubdhaṁ suyodhanam |
Unchecked desire for power (rājya-lobha) is portrayed as a moral failing that endangers family and kingdom; even a king’s late wish to correct a wrong path must contend with the consequences of earlier indulgence and weak restraint.
After hearing a decisive statement granting the sons freedom to act as Duryodhana wishes, Dhṛtarāṣṭra urgently instructs Vidura to summon Duryodhana (with his circle) so that he might still attempt to redirect him toward righteous conduct and avert disaster.
