śṛṇoti śrāvayed vāpi satataṃ caiva yo naraḥ | sarvapāpavinirmukto vaiṣṇavaṃ padam āpnoti ||
Regularly listening to, or facilitating the recitation of, the Mahābhārata is presented as a devotional and ethical practice that purifies one from sin and leads toward the highest spiritual goal—attainment of Viṣṇu’s supreme abode.
In the closing, fruit-of-listening (phalaśruti) style passage of the Svargārohaṇa section, Vaiśampāyana states the spiritual benefit of engaging with the epic through hearing or recitation, emphasizing its power to cleanse and elevate the listener/reciter.
