य इमां संहितां पुण्यां पुत्रमध्यापयच्छुकम् । मातापितृसहस्राणि पुत्रदारशतानि च । संसारेष्वनुभूतानि यान्ति यास्यन्ति चापरे
ya imāṃ saṃhitāṃ puṇyāṃ putram adhyāpayac chukam | mātāpitṛsahasrāṇi putradāraśatāni ca | saṃsāreṣv anubhūtāni yānti yāsyanti cāpare ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「この聖なる編纂を世に顕し、わが子シュカに授け教えた方—世尊ヴェーダヴィヤーサは、（かくして『マハーバーラタ』の要諦を説き示す）：輪廻（サンサーラ）の世において、人はすでに、いまも、そしてこれからも、幾千の父母、幾百の妻子との邂逅と離別を経験し続ける。かかる絆はサンサーラにおいて、結ばれては断たれ、断たれてはまた結ばれるのだ。」
