Svargārohaṇa-parva Adhyāya 5 — Karmaphala-Nirdeśa and Phalāśruti (कर्मफलनिर्देशः फलश्रुतिश्च)
etad te sarvam ākhyātaṁ vistareṇa mahādyute | kurūṇāṁ caritaṁ kṛtsnaṁ pāṇḍavānāṁ ca bhārata ||
The verse underscores the Mahābhārata’s self-presentation as a complete ethical-historical account: the deeds and conduct (carita) of both Kurus and Pāṇḍavas are to be understood in full, so that dharma and the consequences of choices can be discerned through the total narrative.
Vaiśampāyana signals a wrap-up to his detailed telling to King Janamejaya, stating that he has fully recounted the entire story of the Kuru line—both the Kurus (Kauravas) and the Pāṇḍavas—within the Svargārohaṇa (ascent to heaven) conclusion of the epic.
