Śānti-parva Adhyāya 44 — Post-War Reassignment of Residences and Restorative Consolation

tato duryodhana-gṛhaṃ prāsādair upaśobhitam | bahu-ratna-samākīrṇaṃ dāsī-dāsa-samākulam ||

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how royal splendor—palaces, jewels, and attendants—can be amassed and transferred, yet dharma demands that those who receive or govern such resources exercise restraint, responsibility, and right conduct rather than attachment to display.

Vaiśampāyana describes Duryodhana’s richly adorned residence, overflowing with treasures and servants, as the scene shifts to the experience of entering or taking possession of a grand royal dwelling.
