Service to Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Allocation of State Duties
एष नाथो हि जगतो भवतां च मया सह | अस्यैव पृथिवी कृत्स्ना पाण्डवा: सर्व एव च
eṣa nātho hi jagato bhavatāṁ ca mayā saha | asyaiva pṛthivī kṛtsnā pāṇḍavāḥ sarva eva ca ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「彼こそが世界の主であり守護者—汝らすべてと、わたしとを併せての主である。この全大地も、すべてのパーンドゥ族も、また彼に属する。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse asserts rightful sovereignty and refuge: a true ruler/protector is the ‘nātha’ of the world, and legitimate authority over the earth and its people rests with him. Ethically, it frames kingship as guardianship rather than mere possession.
Vaiśampāyana, narrating the events of Śānti Parva, identifies a particular figure as the universal protector and affirms that the whole earth and all the Pāṇḍavas are under his rightful lordship/charge, reinforcing political and moral legitimacy after the war.
