Service to Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Allocation of State Duties
विदुरं संजयं चैव युयुत्सुं च महामतिम् । अब्रवीत् परवीरघ्नो धर्मात्मा धर्मवत्सल:ः
vaiśampāyana uvāca | viduraṃ saṃjayaṃ caiva yuyutsuṃ ca mahāmatim | abravīt paravīraghno dharmātmā dharmavatsalaḥ ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。ついでユディシュティラ――敵の勇士を討ち、心正しくダルマを愛する者――は、ヴィドゥラ、サンジャヤ、そして大いなる知恵を備えたユユツに告げた。常に怠りなく警醒し、日ごとに起き出でて、年長の叔父たるドリタラーシュトラ王への奉仕に要する一切の務めを、ふさわしい作法で遂行せよ、と。戦後の王道と倫理的統治の中心に、老いた縁者への敬養を据えたのである。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even after victory, dharma requires vigilant, respectful care for elders and kin—especially those formerly opposed—so that governance is grounded in duty, restraint, and reconciliation rather than triumphalism.
In the Śānti Parva’s postwar setting, Yudhiṣṭhira speaks to Vidura, Saṃjaya, and Yuyutsu, directing them to attend properly and daily to the needs and service of the aged King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, his elder uncle.
