indra-ke pṛcchane para dvijaśreṣṭha-nāradena tebhyaḥ yathā ca yena ḍhaṅgena sā kathā kathitā āsīt, tathā eva aham api vakṣyāmi | tvam api mayā uktāṃ tāṃ kathāṃ dhyānaṃ dattvā śṛṇu || iti śrīmahābhārate śāntiparvaṇi mokṣadharmaparvaṇi ucchavṛttyupākhyāne dvipañcāśad-adhika-triśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ ||
The passage emphasizes faithful transmission of sacred instruction and the ethical discipline of attentive listening: a teaching is to be conveyed accurately (yathā…tathā) and received with focused mind (dhyānaṃ dattvā), especially in matters of mokṣa-dharma.
Bhishma introduces an upcoming instructive tale: Narada previously narrated it to Indra in response to a question, and Bhishma now promises to recount the same story in the same manner, urging the listener to hear it attentively.
